After Gautam Gambhir, another BJP MP said the party will not contest elections

New Delhi:

BJP MP Jayant Sinha has asked the party to relieve him of election duties, indicating that he does not want an active role or a ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Mr Sinha’s announcement came hours after another party leader Gautam Gambhir hinted at his exit from electoral politics.

Both the MPs have requested BJP President JP Nadda to relieve them so that they can focus on their other commitments.

In a post on Twitter, the MP from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand wrote, “I have requested Honorable Party President JP Nadda to relieve me of my direct election duties so that I can focus on my efforts on tackling global climate change in India and around the world.” I can concentrate.” Of course, I will continue to work with the party on economic and governance issues.”

These announcements come amid reports that both the leaders may not get tickets for the upcoming 2024 elections. The BJP is said to be considering giving tickets to several new leaders and some other sitting MPs are also understood to have told the party that they would like to focus on other organizational work.

The party has conducted extensive surveys to find out which leaders are popular among the public. Sources told NDTV that both Gautam Gambhir and Jayant Sinha did not perform well in the surveys and are unlikely to get tickets to contest the 2024 elections.

The BJP is expected to soon release the first list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections – over 100 names, which will include stalwarts like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The party held marathon meetings throughout the night in Delhi, including the one led by the Prime Minister at his Delhi residence, which started at 11 pm on Thursday and ended at 4 am on Friday.

Earlier today, BJP’s East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir also said that he has asked the party to relieve him of political duties so that he can focus on his upcoming cricket commitments.

“I have requested Honorable Party President JP Nadda Ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving me this opportunity to serve the people. Thank you. Jai Hind,” Mr Gambhir wrote.
