Patna, Nov 5 (IANS) Union minister and former JDU national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh on Wednesday reacted to an FIR lodged against him, saying the Election Commission of India (ECI) is impartial and the entire video related to the complaint should be investigated.
Speaking to reporters in Mokama, Lalan Singh alleged that RJD has aired a selective, misleading clip.
“The portion being shared does not reflect the entire context, and the truth will come out once the entire recording is played,” Singh said.
Lalan Singh claimed that the clip was recorded in a village, where he alleged that an RJD leader was intimidating poor residents of Ward 15 to 27 by threatening to vote them out.
“I was encouraging those same voters,” he said, arguing that his comments had been taken out of context.
Lalan Singh said, since the FIR has been registered, now the entire video will be examined as part of the investigation.
He also asked RJD to make public the footage of the Pandarak incident and apologize if their version circulated is misleading.
The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a notice to Lalan Singh and asked him to explain about the video statement he made in Mokama during the campaign for his party candidate Anant Singh.
RJD posted a video clip on Instagram which shows Lalan Singh during the election campaign.
In the viral clip, Lalan Singh is seen saying, “There are one or two leaders, don’t let them leave the house on the election day. Lock them in the house and if they plead too much, ask them to come with us and vote. From today, all of you take charge.”
After ECI notice and viral attention, FIR was registered against Lalan Singh.
Anant Singh is currently in judicial custody in the case of alleged murder of Dular Chand Yadav in Mokama. That incident happened on 30 October. Lalan Singh is campaigning in the area in support of Anant Singh.
