Kolkata, Nov 11 (IANS) A day after eight people were killed in a Delhi blast, West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose on Tuesday asked people to have faith in the central government and said all steps would be taken to ensure the safety of the people of the country.
The Governor’s message to the people of the country was that there is a strong government in the country and it will soon overcome this difficult situation.
Speaking to media persons outside Andal airport in West Burdwan district, Governor Bose said, “What happened is very unfortunate. We have a strong democracy and a strong government which will deal with any such situation. Certainly we will take all steps to ensure that the people of India are safe.”
The Governor arrived in Bankura on Tuesday to attend the convocation ceremony of a college.
He reached Andal airport from Kolkata in a special army aircraft.
From there he went to the college at Bankura by road.
After landing in Andal, the Governor condemned the car bomb blast in Delhi and expressed grief.
At least eight people were killed and dozens more injured after a car exploded near the Red Fort on Monday evening.
The blast took place at 6:52 pm on Monday in a Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort metro station, leaving mutilated bodies and damaged cars scattered across the busy area.
High alert has been issued in Delhi.
Delhi Police has invoked sections of UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) after forensic evidence and intelligence inputs pointed towards possible terror links.
After the Delhi blast, the Home Ministry has issued a high alert in many cities across the country.
The list includes some places in Kolkata and West Bengal.
The impact of this blast was seen on the security of the Governor on Tuesday.
Apart from the Governor’s own security personnel, additional security from the Army was seen in Andal.
Nine armed soldiers were seen beside the Governor.
Along with this, forces of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate were also deployed.
After attending the college convocation at Bankura, Governor Bose returned to Kolkata via the same airport.
