One person has died in Yorkshire Rabies After contact with a stray dog during a holiday in Morocco, the UK’s Health Protection Agency (UKHSA) has said.
Officials said that the evaluation of health workers and people having close contact with the person is being evaluated as a precautionary measure and where necessary, vaccination is offered, the officials said.
However, the agency stressed that there was no risk to the broader public due to no evidence of passing through rabies among humans.

The head of emerging infection and zunoses in the UKHSA, Dr. Catherine Russell said: “I would like to expand my condolences to this person’s family at this time.
“If you are bitten by an animal in an country, scratch or licked, where rabies is found, you should wash a site of wounds or exposure with a lot of soap and water and seek medical advice without any delay to get post-exposure treatment to prevent rabies.
“There is no risk to the broader public in relation to this case. Human matters of rabies in the UK are extremely rare, and there are no documented examples of direct human-human transmission worldwide.”
