Afghanistan on Sunday unveiled the 17 -member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is to be played in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 9 to 28 September.
Afghanistan will face Hong Kong in the initial game of the Asia Cup on 9 September. The tournament to be held from 9-28 September in the United Arab Emirates will facilitate eight teams competing for the prestigious trophy. The event will be played in the T20I format and will make a necessary preparation for the sides before the Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Veteran spinners Rashid Khan will captain the side, while the white-ball stars Azmatullah Omrajai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Fazalhak Farooqui and Mohammad Nabi, who helped Afghanistan qualify for the knockout phase of the last year’s ICC men’s T20 World Cup.
Prior to the Asia Cup, Afghanistan faced hosts, UAE and Pakistan in the T20I Tri-Nation series starting in Sharjah this Friday, which will feature most of the 22-member initial squads declared earlier this month.
India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman are in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong Group B.
