Adil Rashid Already supported Shuab Bashir Come back strong from a challenging winter.
The 22-year-old has been selected as England’s chief spinner ashes England toured Australia but did not play a single match as England opted to use all-rounder Will Jacks as their only spin option.
Rashid, who played 19 Test matches for England before choosing to focus on his white-ball career, said Bashir just needs to keep working on improving his skills.
“I haven’t spoken to him much in recent times or in the last few months, not really. But this happens in Test cricket,” Rashid said.
“You go overseas, play a Test or the Ashes and you don’t get picked to play. It happens a lot of times and other players leave and don’t play, so he’s in the same situation and he doesn’t get a chance.
“I’m sure he’ll go back and work hard and be ready for the next game.”
Outside player Bashir has joined Derbyshire After leaving, he signed a two-year contract somersethe found that his opportunities were limited.
“I think over the last few years, I would say in England, particularly in county cricket, we’ve always been unlucky at times, April, May, June probably more so for seamers,” Rashid added.
“Spinners can come in every now and then and bowl a few overs here and there, so obviously that doesn’t help. But I think it’s part of the game.
“Because of the nature of Championship cricket, it’s a team game, not an individual game. As a spinner, you have to learn to say, ‘OK, for the first month and a half, I might not bowl too much, but I’m still working behind closed doors and I’m still trying to improve my craft’.”
Rashid produced another stunning performance on Friday, taking 3 for 19 to help England beat Sri Lanka to a joint 20th spot, his variety of spin confusing the hosts’ batsmen.
The 37-year-old, who has now played 135 T20 games for England, remains at the top of his game and is bowling alongside left-armer Liam Dawson as he bids to lead England to a third World T20 title in the coming weeks.
“It’s really good,” Rasheed said. “Obviously Dawson came in and he had a tough game early on at times, bowling in the powerplay and it was a very tricky game,” Rashid said.
“We complement each other well and we also talk to each other regularly to understand what is needed and what he thinks because we are spinners and we are good friends too so we have that relationship where we can discuss things and see things on the pitch.
“I give him information and he gives me information and it goes back and forth. Like I said, so far, it’s been going great.”
