Mumbai, Nov 25 (IANS) Actress Celina Jaitley has moved a Mumbai court, accusing her husband, Austrian businessman Peter Haag, of severe emotional, physical, verbal and financial abuse.
Andheri magistrate court on Tuesday issued notice to Haag and fixed the next hearing for December 12.
In her application filed under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Jaitley alleged that she was forced to flee her home in Austria and return to India on October 11, leaving behind her three children.
They claim that Haag has blocked all access to the children, except for one conversation on 14 November.
Jaitley has also accused Hague of initiating divorce proceedings in Austria, where the couple’s marriage was registered in 2010. The two had earlier got married in a Hindu ceremony in Mumbai.
The actor has demanded Rs 10 lakh per month for maintenance and Rs 50 crore as compensation for the loss of earnings he allegedly suffered due to years of abuse.
She has further sought an order restraining Haag from interfering with the possession of their shared Andheri flat. His plea also demands Rs 1.26 crore for alleged loss related to removal of properties in Mumbai and Vienna from his control and Rs 32 lakh for alleged misappropriation of funds.
In her detailed complaint, Jaitley recounted a series of alleged incidents of cruelty from the early years of their relationship. She claims that Haag had demanded expensive gifts from her family before the marriage. She has also alleged incidents of abuse during their honeymoon in Italy, at his Mumbai residence and in 2012 when she gave birth to twins.
Jaitley says Haag forced her to move to Dubai and later Singapore in 2011, forcing her to abandon her acting career to support his overseas operations.
She alleges that despite her professional achievements including Miss India 2001, Miss Universe runner-up and CDS exam qualifier, she was repeatedly subjected to verbal and racist insults, which caused her deep psychological distress.
The petition also accuses Haag of putting her under financial pressure, claiming he took ownership of her Indian property and sold her Vienna property in July without informing her. She further alleged that they confiscated her personal belongings including the Miss India crown.
