Vicky Gupta and Sagar Kumar Palak had been living in a rented house in Panvel, Raigad, Maharashtra. The two paid a deposit of Rs 10,000 for the house and agreed to pay rent of Rs 3,500 per month.

Sagar Kumar Palak’s previous stint in Haryana has become the focus of investigation after reports emerged of his links with the notorious Bishnoi gang. The search operation adopted a multi-pronged approach and 12 specialized teams were set up to track down the accused.

The police sent a team to Gujarat after suspecting that the accused might be hiding in the state. The police first reached Bhuj and then went to Nakatrana, 58 km away, where they nabbed the accused from a temple.

The two accused were subsequently sent to Mumbai and were produced before a magistrate’s court on Tuesday.

The crime branch requested that the suspects be detained for 14 days, citing the need to interrogate them to reveal details about the conspiracy and identify the masterminds behind the entire incident.

The court approved the police’s request for detention and gave nine days (to April 25) for further investigation.
