Bengaluru, Oct 9 (IANS) The shocking incident of a man accused in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act jumping from the fifth floor of a Bengaluru court to his death on Thursday was reported from the City Civil Court complex.
The deceased person has been identified as Gautam, an accused in the POCSO case. The shocking incident happened when family members and relatives of the accused were present in the court.
According to police sources, the accused was facing a POCSO case registered at Adugodi police station and was brought for trial from the central jail at Parappana Agrahara on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Suddenly he managed to escape from the police and committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor. The police is investigating the matter.
Gautam, who was arrested on April 21, 2025, was a resident of KR Puram and ran an electrical shop in Bengaluru’s Chikkapete area.
In April, Gautam had gone to his relatives’ house in Audogudi and committed the crime there. The victim was his relative.
Gautam’s suicide created chaos in the court premises for some time. Eventually the body was taken to Victoria Hospital. More information is yet to be revealed regarding the incident.
Police have said that unable to bear the humiliation of his arrest and trial in the sexual assault case, Gautam took the extreme step and ended his life.
On January 28, 2024, in a heartbreaking development, two teenage girls – both victims in POCSO cases – died by suicide in separate incidents reported from Mandya and Tumkuru in Karnataka.
On January 26, a 15-year-old girl in Mandya allegedly took her own life after learning that her neighbor had sexually assaulted her and had made her pregnant. He is currently absconding.
A day before that, on January 25, a 17-year-old girl in Tumkura reportedly ended her life at a rehabilitation center because she could not live with her boyfriend, who was earlier arrested on rape charges.
