Kolkata, Nov 18 (IANS) Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will visit the districts of North Bengal in November to oversee the party’s organizational preparations for the 2026 state assembly elections.
Trinamool Congress sources said that Banerjee will start her tour from Cooch Behar on November 25.
Banerjee’s programs were scheduled in several districts of North Bengal, including Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and North Dinajpur.
Apart from reviewing the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal’s electoral rolls, Banerjee will also examine the working of war rooms and party camps set up in each assembly constituency.
According to party sources, Banerjee will discuss election preparations in detail with the district leadership.
Party sources said, “The party’s booth-level agents or BLAs are monitoring the filling of enumeration forms, as a large number of people are seeking help from party workers in filling such forms. Before starting this process, Abhishek Banerjee had clearly instructed in a virtual meeting that we have to be there for the people in the 6,200 party camps across the state.”
Banerjee will visit war rooms and camps in the districts and talk to party workers on the spot. He will also review organizational preparations and give necessary instructions. It is also learned that a separate report will be prepared for each district.
Moreover, speculation was rife about another ‘Trinamool Naba Jwar’ (mass contact campaign) program to be launched before the assembly elections.
There is speculation that Banerjee may announce this campaign in a new form during her North Bengal tour.
It may be recalled that in 2023, Banerjee had launched a two-and-a-half-month long mass contact campaign named ‘Trinamool Naba Jowar’ where she campaigned extensively across the state through rallies, padyatras and public meetings.
The campaign was highly successful as Trinamool Congress regained lost ground in Bengal in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, Trinamool Congress won 29, seven more than its 22 seats in the 2019 general elections.
At the same time, if we talk about assembly elections, BJP has the upper hand in North Bengal.
In the 2021 state assembly elections, the BJP won 30 of the 54 assembly seats in eight districts of North Bengal, while the TMC retained power in Bengal.
Therefore, to turn around the party’s fortunes in North Bengal, Banerjee focused special attention on the region and this upcoming visit is important in that regard.
