‘A true leader has eyes all over his body’: TN Minister Vijay and Governor

Chennai, Oct 20 (IANS) Senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan on Monday sharply criticized actor Vijay and Governor RN Ravi, saying both lacked the political maturity and understanding required for their roles.

Speaking to reporters in Vellore, Durai Murugan said, “41 people have died and everyone is blaming him (Vijay).

They will have to answer for this tragedy. But till now he has not come forward and given any explanation. I don’t know how long he intends to remain silent or what benefit he will gain from this silence.”

The minister, known for his witty political comments, said politics requires more than popularity.

“Running a party is not easy. A party is made up of people from different walks of life, who have different temperaments and experiences. Therefore, a leader should not have just two eyes – he should have eyes in his entire body, should be able to see everything and think intelligently. A successful party should accept everyone; otherwise, it will soon fizzle out,” he said, indirectly referring to actor Vijay’s political ambitions and the controversies surrounding his political organisation. Hui commented.

In another conversation, Durai Murugan was asked about Governor RN Ravi’s recent statement that “poverty has not ended in Tamil Nadu and caste discrimination and separatism are on the rise.”

The veteran DMK leader responded candidly, saying, “He is no longer acting like the Governor of this state – he is behaving like the Leader of the Opposition. He has abandoned the dignity and decorum of his constitutional office. He speaks like a person belonging to the Opposition, not like a Governor.”

Durai Murugan further said, “Therefore, we do not respect him as a Governor, nor do we wish to make any comments about him. In many northern states, separatist tendencies are visible, but in Tamil Nadu, we have maintained peace and harmony. The Governor’s comments are not new – others with similar political motives have said the same things before. So I have chosen to ignore his statements.”

The minister’s comments come amid growing tension between the Raj Bhavan and the DMK government, and at a time when actor Vijay’s political entry has sparked widespread debate in Tamil Nadu political circles.
