Bengaluru, Nov 12 (IANS) A man under the influence of marijuana allegedly tried to rape a disabled woman in Bengaluru. Police gave this information on Wednesday.
People caught hold of the accused, identified as Vignesh alias Dadu, and thrashed him. Later they handed over Dadu to the police.
Although the incident took place on November 9, it came to light recently and a video of the beating of the accused has gone viral on social media.
According to the police, the incident happened in broad daylight when the victim was alone at home. The victim is a young, differently abled woman who is unable to speak, has no control over her legs and has the capacity to develop a child.
The victim’s family members had gone away from home to attend a wedding, leaving her alone. At around 11 in the morning, the accused entered the house and locked the door from inside.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother returned home and found the door locked from inside. Worried, the mother kicked the door with force.
On entering the house, the mother saw that her daughter was lying on the bed in a bad condition. When the mother tried to force open the door, the accused hid in a corner of the house.
The accused ran out of the house after the victim’s mother saw him.
Seeing him running and hearing the victim’s mother shouting, the local people chased him, caught him and beat him. Later they handed him over to the police.
Adugodi police have arrested the accused and are investigating further.
On August 9, a mentally challenged woman was allegedly gang-raped in Hassan, Karnataka, and the accused reportedly made a video recording of the act.
In February, two minors, including a mentally challenged girl, were allegedly raped in Karnataka’s Raichur and Hassan districts respectively.
A class II student was allegedly raped in Manvi taluk and the police have arrested the accused. The victim used to go to the educational institution by school bus.
An incident of sexual assault of a mentally challenged girl was reported in Halebidu police station limits of Hassan district.
