Rachel Reeves Attacked the “bizarre” rape clause attached to the two-child cap policy during his budget speech.
Speaking to the Commons on Wednesday (26 November), the Chancellor criticized the policy, which means a parent or carer must prove the child was conceived non-consensually to receive benefits.
She said, “I will no longer tolerate the disgusting disrespect towards women in the rape section. It is inhumane. It is cruel.”
She said she would lift the two-child benefit limit from April, a move which would increase benefits by an average of £5,310 for 560,000 families. OBR Have calculated.
