New Delhi, November 10 (IANS) A notorious history-sheeter criminal carrying a reward of Rs 50,000, identified as Hasin, was killed in a police encounter in Kapurpur area of Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The encounter took place when police stopped him during a checking operation late on Sunday night after receiving a specific intelligence input about criminal activity in the area.
According to police sources, the accused, who had more than 25 criminal cases registered against him, was allegedly planning an incident of cow slaughter when the police team tried to stop his vehicle. Instead of surrendering, Hasin opened indiscriminate fire on the police team. In retaliatory firing the accused was shot and later died.
Police officials recovered a pistol and a vehicle (Swift Dezire) from the encounter site. The body has been sent for post-mortem and a detailed investigation has been started.
Superintendent of Police, Hapur, Kunwar Gyananjay Singh, while briefing, said, “Last night at around 12.30, we received information about the activity of a group of suspects in Thana Kapurpur area. Acting on this information, the Station House Officer of Kapurpur police station proceeded towards the indicated location with his team. During investigation, they saw a suspicious Swift Dezire car and tried to stop it. People in the car opened fire on the police team. “And the people in the car fired at the police team, who retaliated in self-defence.”
“In the firing, one of the attackers was seriously injured. He was taken to the community health center at Dhaulana and later referred to Rama Medical College, where doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased was identified as Haseen, a resident of Manotta village under Ashmoli police station in Sambhal district,” he said.
Singh said that there are about 25-26 criminal cases registered against him, which include serious charges like robbery, assault and illegal possession of weapons. “He was a wanted criminal and the police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on him. A pistol, live cartridges and a car have been recovered from the spot. Further investigation is underway,” he said.
Police officials confirmed that Hasin was a notorious criminal operating in western Uttar Pradesh and had been evading arrest for several months. Hapur police along with Special Operations Group (SOG) were keeping an eye on his activities based on intelligence inputs.
This encounter is another major success for the UP Police in its ongoing crackdown against hardened criminals in the area.
