A thick layer of toxic smoke blanketed many parts of Delhi on Thursday (December 4), causing the air quality in the city’s major corridors to deteriorate sharply.

There is a deep fog on the arteries on Rao Tula Ram Marg. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the AQI in the area was 344, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category.

A similar situation was seen near Akshardham, where morning commuters were passing through a blanket of fog. AQI 318 was recorded in the area, which is also categorized as ‘very poor’.

In Ghazipur, visibility remained low as the area recorded AQI 318, indicating hazardous particulate levels.

The air quality in Anand Vihar area was reported to be of concern, where the AQI was recorded at 318, which is in the ‘very poor’ band.

As smog levels continue to rise, health experts continue to urge residents—especially children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems—to limit outdoor exposure and use protective masks when going out.
