A big mistake to select Hardik Pandya for T20 World Cup? Sunil Gavaskar says, “In this IPL…”

India cricket great Sunil Gavaskar believes there is no reason to be too worried about Hardik Pandya’s bowling form in the T20 World Cup, saying the all-rounder will be a “different player” at the national level. Despite his mediocre form for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL, Pandya was retained as the vice-captain in the 15-member squad announced by the BCCI on Tuesday. The MI captain has scored 197 runs in 10 matches and taken just four wickets, while his team is placed ninth.

“There is a big difference between playing in the IPL and playing for your country. Playing for your country brings out something different in every player and Hardik Pandya will be a different player,” Gavaskar said on Sports Today.

“He has faced a lot of issues in this particular tournament (IPL), he has handled it quite well. When he goes abroad and has to play for India, I think he will have a completely different mindset. “Will be in.”

Gavaskar said, “And it will be a much more positive mindset than what we have seen in this tournament. So, Hardik Pandya will contribute with both bat and ball in this tournament.”

Pandya was criticized a lot in the first few IPL matches after taking over the captaincy of Mumbai Indians from Rohit Sharma, who has led the franchise to five titles.

Gavaskar also feels that this Indian team has the potential to bring back the World Cup.

“They are title contenders without any question. At the international level, sometimes you need a little bit of luck and if this Indian team has a little bit of luck, I am confident that after 2007 (victory), The T20 World Cup will return to India.”

The former India captain believes that all the players will be fully prepared going into this mega event, as they would have played a lot of cricket in the IPL.

“They will go in with good rhythm (after the IPL); the bowlers will have bowled a lot of overs, the batsmen will have enough time in the middle, some of them will have scored 80, 90, 100.

“So, obviously, this team will go with that short break… a week’s break (between the conclusion of the IPL and the start of the World Cup). With that short break, they will be a little fresher, but at the same time Not bad.” The IPL will end on May 26 while India will play its first World Cup match against Ireland on June 5 in New York.
