Sunrisers Hyderabad leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to chronic heel pain in his left foot, ESPNcricinfo reported. According to ESPNcricinfo, Hasaranga is yet to join the Hyderabad squad and the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informed the BCCI that he will not be available for the current season. In the IPL 2024 auction in December, the Sri Lankan star all-rounder was bought by Hyderabad for a base price of Rs 15 crore. Hasaranga is a hot name in the T20 league and has excelled as a spinner with Royal Challengers Bangalore for the past two seasons.

Hasaranagar, who last played in Sri Lanka’s limited-overs series in Bangladesh in March, was treated by the SLC medical staff, who believed the pain in his left heel was caused by wear and tear on the musculoskeletal system. He was supposed to fly overseas for expert consultation before getting clearance from SLC to play in the IPL. News of Hasaranga’s exit spread after Sunrisers head coach Daniel Vettori announced on Thursday that Hasaranga had consulted experts in Dubai.

Hasaranga was suspended earlier this month after being docked eight points for breaching Article 2.8 of the players’ code of conduct in the third one-day international against Bangladesh.

Earlier, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori gave a major update on Sri Lanka star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga’s injury and said the 26-year-old has gone to Consult an expert in Dubai.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Vettori said the Hyderabad-based team is currently awaiting Hasaranga’s medical report. The former New Zealand cricketer said they were hoping for positive reports.

He added that the team management will decide on the future of the Sri Lankan spinner after receiving the medical report.

“Hasaranga has visited an expert in Dubai and we are waiting for the report to come in. We are just hoping for a positive report and once we receive it we will make a decision,” Vettori said.
