A 7-year-old girl in the United States has her legs amputated multiple times due to a rare bacterial disease

It’s unclear how the 7-year-old contracted the rare bacteria.

A 7-year-old girl in the United States had to have her leg amputated within the past two weeks after contracting a rare bacterial disease.according to Fox 10Victoria Pasten-Morales from Arizona was diagnosed with Group A strep before undergoing eight surgeries. The bacterial illness lowered her immune system, leaving her susceptible to other illnesses. The illness began with fever and vomiting, and eventually, her lips and hands turned blue. Her parents rushed her to hospital, but the fatal disease quickly spiraled out of control and doctors had to amputate one of her hands and both of her feet.

“Everything happened very fast. It happened very fast. We don’t know where it came from, but it all happened in less than 12 hours,” mother Obdulia Morales told reporters Fox 10. “Her lips and hands started to turn blue,” she added. “Unfortunately, they had to amputate both her feet and her right hand. Her left hand is still recovering,” father Victor Pasten told the outlet.

It’s unclear how the 7-year-old girl contracted the rare bacteria. “Even the doctors couldn’t tell us how she contracted the bacteria,” Ms. Odulia said. The parents also said the bacteria affected her lungs and kidneys.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), bacteria called group A Streptococcus (Group A Streptococcus) can cause many different infections. These infections range from mild illness to very severe and fatal illness.

The 7-year-old is awake but on a ventilator. Fox 10 the report said. “It’s not going to be easy for her. It’s going to be difficult, but she’s strong. She’s a fighter,” her mother said. Parents said their daughter continued to blow kisses even though she couldn’t walk.

The family has also started a GoFundMe to help with rising medical costs. “Victoria was a smart, kind-hearted child who loved her family dearly. She had wonderful and loving parents and three siblings who meant the world to her,” the GoFundMe page reads.

“We are reaching out to the community to help raise funds for Victoria’s medical costs, as well as food, gas and other expenses for families. The financial burden of an unexpected medical emergency can be significant and we want to ensure Victoria The state’s family can focus on her recovery without the added stress of mounting bills.”

So far, the family has raised just over $28,000.
