Guests dining at an upscale restaurant in Wisconsin had an unexpected visitor during the meal, when a raccoon fell through the ceiling and bit a customer.

On December 14, around 7:30 p.m., the dangerous raccoon broke loose inside Restaurant Brisago at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, about 55 miles southwest of Milwaukee. According to WDJT.

After the creature fell from the ceiling and into the dining room, a guest attempted to catch it and was bitten.

Walworth County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the restaurant and found the animal curled up in a corner of the back dining room. Officials placed a trash can over the creature to contain it. Body camera footage shows officers discussing using a Taser on the raccoon before deciding against it.

Matt Snorek, owner of Guaranteed Gone Wildlife Control, used dog poles and a cage to trap the raccoon.

“We don’t know how this raccoon got there,” Snorek said. Fox 6 Now. “The phone rang, it was the resort on Lake Geneva. They said, ‘Hey, do you do wildlife control?’ I said yes.'”

Snorek described the raccoon as large and aggressive.

“It was a pretty big raccoon. So when I got there he was on it for 25 minutes because he was wiggling, scratching, hissing,” Snorek said.

While the situation may seem bizarre, Snorek says calls involving wildlife entering buildings are more common during Midwestern winters.

“When we get a cold snap like we’ve had the last two days, it’s not unusual to hear a raccoon going into a structure,” he said.

Since the raccoon had bitten someone, officials euthanized it and tested it for rabies. The Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Division, told Fox 6 Now that the raccoon was negative for the disease.
