super model Anok Yai Recent findings have revealed that he is suffering from a birth defect.
Yes, The first black model to open the Prada runwayposted on Instagram on Friday, revealing that doctors have found a birth defect that was not discovered until recently.
According to Boston Children’s Hospital, about three to four percent of babies are born with some type of birth defect. It is not unusual for the symptoms of a dosha to remain dormant for years or throughout a person’s life.
“For the past year I’ve been dealing with this silent battle,” Yai captioned the post, which featured several clips of her lying in a hospital bed. “By chance I discovered I had a birth defect that was overtaxing my heart and slowly destroying my lungs.”
She explained in the post that she was symptom-free her entire life, but after experiencing a persistent cough everything started to unravel.

,[The cough] Yai further said, “Chest pain, coughing up blood and then sometimes difficulty in breathing.” I chose to work on it, trying to find the right doctor and the right time. I soon realized that the ‘right time’ would never come – my health would continue to deteriorate.’
“I’ve always thought I could outrun or outrun anything, but the universe has a way of slowing you down and waking you up. So, yesterday I had a successful robotic lung surgery, thanks to Dr. Robert Cerfolio and his kind and talented team, who I am forever grateful for giving me so much time.”
The robotic surgery the supermodel referred to is called robotic thoracic surgery, which the American Lung Association describes as a procedure used to remove diseased lung tissue and possibly surrounding lymph nodes.
The supermodel then thanked her medical team for diagnosing her condition and said that she is currently recovering.
Her caption continued, “I am forever grateful to Dr. Harmik Soukiasian and everyone at @beverlyhillsconciergehealth for diagnosing my condition.” “Thank you to all the doctors and amazing nurses at @nyulangone, and thank you to my friends and family for being the first thing I saw when I woke up.”
“For now, I’m healing… but I’ll be back,” her caption concluded. “See you.”
Since Yai’s debut on the Prada runway in 2018, her career has been on the rise, with her winning Model of the Year at the 2025 Fashion Awards earlier this month.
“I was told that I would become a flash-in-the-pan and that I would be crushed by the machine of the fashion industry and that my career would only last six months,” she said in her acceptance speech at the ceremony. “It’s been six months, huh?”
