Former Cleveland officer who shot and killed 12-year-old boy tamir rice Has been dismissed from the post of a ranger in 2014 West Virginia Resort community.
It is the fourth time in seven years that he has left a small department following a public backlash.
timothy lohman was fired from his position at the Snowshoe Resort Community District on Friday. The district board announced Lohman’s dismissal in a statement after its emergency meeting.
Subodh Chandra, a Cleveland-based attorney for Rice’s family, said that “Lohman’s determination to impose himself on other people seems pathological. So does the poor judgment craven by any public official who hires him.”
Rice, who was black, was playing with a pellet gun outside a recreation center in Cleveland on November 22, 2014, when Lohman shot and killed him, seconds after the officer and his partner arrived.
White officers told investigators that Lohman had yelled at Rice three times to raise his hands.
The shooting sparked outrage about police treatment of black people and systemic racism, especially after a grand jury decided not to indict Lohman or his partner.
Cleveland settled a lawsuit over Rice’s death for $6 million. The city fired Lohman for lying in his application to become a police officer.
Lohman got a part-time position with a police department in southeast Ohio in 2018. He withdrew his application a few days later after Rice’s mother and others criticized the appointment.
He was sworn in as the only police officer in Tioga, Pennsylvania in 2022, and left amid protests following his appointment.
Last year, he resigned from his position as a probation officer in the city of White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia, and the police chief responsible for hiring him also stepped down.
