The government on Sunday, December 21, clarified that a complete ban on mining in the Aravali hill region of Delhi will continue.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) said that the Supreme Court has directed that no new mining lease will be granted until the Mining Plan for Sustainable Management (MPSM) is finalized by the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE).
The ministry said mining is permitted in only 2% of the total 1.47 lakh square kilometer Aravalli area, and even in these designated areas, mining can proceed only after a detailed mining plan is prepared and approved by ICFRE.
