Taiwanese authorities said Saturday that the suspect who killed three people and wounded 11 others in knife and smoke grenade attacks in the island’s capital had planned attacks and fires at two other sites later in the day.

Chang said the suspect later threw smoke grenades near two exits of the Taipei Main Metro station and used a knife to fatally wound a man. After the attack, the suspect took an underground route to return to the hotel where he was staying. Chang said he also fatally wounded another man on the fourth floor of the department store building before he died by jumping from a men’s bathroom on the fifth floor.
