The weather office has issued an orange alert for Delhi, warning of major disruption in road, rail and air traffic due to dense fog. The IMD has also issued a red alert for Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, predicting dense to very dense fog in the region on Saturday.
Meanwhile, orange alert has been issued regarding dense fog in Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Chhattisgarh.
Additionally, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for December 20, warning of cold wave conditions across Telangana and Karnataka. Meanwhile, dense fog is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha and northeastern states.
“Dense/very dense fog is likely to prevail at isolated places over Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand till the morning of December 20,” the weather agency said in a post on Twitter.

According to the IMD, dense to very dense fog is likely over Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh and Bihar till the morning of December 21 and over East Uttar Pradesh during night and morning till December 22. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh are also likely to see a return of these conditions on December 24 and 25.
Additionally, isolated dense fog is likely over Northeast India till December 24, while Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and North Odisha will be affected till December 21. Similar conditions are predicted over Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh by 23 December, Bihar on 21 and 22 December, East Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on 22 and 23 December, and Uttarakhand and Punjab on 23 December.
Orange alert issued for dense fog in Delhi
The IMD has issued an orange alert for very dense fog in the morning hours at some places in the national capital on December 20. IMD said the minimum temperature in the national capital is likely to drop to 7-9 degrees Celsius today.

The weather office has issued a yellow alert for Delhi on December 21 and 22. There is a possibility of partly cloudy sky in many areas of the city, there will be moderate fog at many places, dense fog at isolated places in the morning.
Possibility of heavy rain/snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad
In its latest bulletin issued on Saturday, the IMD has forecast that scattered rain or snowfall is likely over the western Himalayan region for the next four days. Particularly on December 21, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall or snowfall at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad. Moreover, rain is likely at isolated places over Punjab during the three-day period from December 20 to 22.
Cold wave forecast in Telangana, Karnataka
According to the weather forecaster, cold wave is likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana and South Interior Karnataka on December 20 and 21.
Additionally, West Madhya Pradesh is likely to experience isolated cold wave conditions, especially on December 20. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely at isolated places over North Interior Karnataka on both 20 and 21 December.

According to the IMD forecast, northwest India will see a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next two days, followed by a sharp fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next five days. Over eastern India, temperatures will remain stable for the next four days and gradually drop by about 2 degrees Celsius, while the Gujarat region is expected to see no change in current temperatures for 24 hours before falling by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next six days.
