Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik on Friday said around 97.4 lakh names have been removed from Tamil Nadu’s voter list after the completion of the counting phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, taking the state’s total voter count to 5.43 crore.
Addressing reporters at the Secretariat, Patnaik said the pre-SIR voter list till October 27, 2025 was of 6.41 crore voters. The revised draft, released on Friday after the counting phase ended on December 14, has been shared with district election officials and registered political parties across the state.
As per the updated draft rolls, Tamil Nadu now has 2.77 crore male voters and 2.66 crore female voters. The number of voters belonging to the third gender is 7,191, while the number of voters with disabilities is 4.19 lakh.
Patnaik said booth level officers (BLOs) and booth level agents (BLAs) conducted three house-to-house visits during the counting phase. Based on this practice, names of voters who were found dead, permanently transferred, absent or enrolled at multiple places were excluded from the draft list.
Of the 97.4 lakh deletions, 26.94 lakh were dead voters, 66.44 lakh were permanently transferred or absentee voters, and 3.39 lakh were cases of multiple enrolment. He said approximately 12,000 individuals chose not to participate during the SIR campaign.
The Election Department has now opened the window for claims and objections. Voters can apply for inclusion using Form 6, raise objections through Form 7, or seek corrections and change of address through Form 8. Submissions can be made through booth level officials or online portals, Patnaik said, adding that special camps will also be organized to assist voters.
He said those who have returned from Sri Lanka and have applied for nomination through Form 6 will be verified by electoral registration officers, who may ask for additional documents if required.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that among the assembly constituencies, Sholinganallur, Pallavaram and Alandur had the highest number of names of voters removed.
