Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan told PTI that the early morning firing took place on a forested hill under Golapalli police station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard was out on a search operation based on information about the presence of Maoist cadres in the area.
Bodies of three Naxalites, including a woman, have so far been recovered from the encounter site, he said, adding that the operation is ongoing and more information is awaited.
With the latest action, 284 Naxalites have been killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year.

Of them, 255 were shot down in Bastar division, which includes seven districts including Sukma, Bijapur and Dantewada, while 27 others were shot down in Gariaband district, which falls in Raipur division. Two Naxalites were killed in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Durg division.
