Vijay Diwas 2025: President Draupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi pay tribute to armed forces

India is celebrating Vijay Diwas to commemorate the historic victory of the armed forces in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. This year, it marks the 54th anniversary of the historic moment in India that also led to the creation of Bangladesh. On the occasion of 54th Vijay Diwas, many leaders gave good wishes through social media posts.

On Tuesday, President Draupadi Murmu paid tribute to the war heroes and remembered their courage, sacrifice and unwavering dedication to the nation.

His bravery and patriotism will continue to inspire the people of the country…” the President wrote on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the courageous armed forces and paid tribute to the unmatched spirit of nationalism of the brave soldiers.

In a post on X, he wrote, “On Vijay Diwas, we remember the brave soldiers whose courage and sacrifice led India to a historic victory in 1971. Their determination and selfless service protected our country and recorded a moment of pride in our history. This day salutes their bravery and reminds us of their unmatched spirit. Their valor continues to inspire generations of Indians.”

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the impeccable coordination between the Army, Navy and Air Force during the conflict. Union Health Minister JP Nadda also paid tribute to the heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty during the 1971 war. He said on

On Vijay Diwas, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the armed forces that gave India a historic victory in the 1971 war. Sharing an archival image of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi shaking hands with the three service chiefs and a photograph of the surrender ceremony in Dhaka, she highlighted the courage of the armed forces in the 1971 war.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to the soldiers, crediting the ‘indomitable valor of the brave warriors of the Indian Armed Forces’ for the ‘historic victory’ in the 1971 war. He said, “On the unforgettable occasion of ‘Vijay Diwas’, a unique symbol of Indian bravery, valor and patriotism, we pay our humble tribute to the sacrificed soldiers of Mother India. The nation is indebted to their sacrifice; inspired by the immortal story of their bravery, India will always remain invincible.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to the country’s armed forces and Mukti Bahini on the anniversary of the 1971 victory. He wrote, “On this day in the year 1971, history was made when the brave armed forces of India decisively defeated Pakistan, secured independence for Bangladesh and reshaped the map of the world. We salute the unmatched courage, valor and sacrifice of the Indian military might and the Mukti Bahini. The sacrifice and dedication of these brave sons of Mother India will always be remembered by a grateful nation.”
