According to news agency ANI, the Agra-Noida carriageway of the Yamuna Expressway was completely closed after the accident, leading to long queues of vehicles at the Khandauli toll plaza.
Toll plaza closed, vehicles stuck for hours
Thousands of vehicles remained stranded and commuters faced hours of delays, with elderly people, women and children being the worst affected.

According to Dainik Jagran, toll operations were suspended as a precautionary measure and traffic was diverted through alternative routes while police and district officials worked to restore normal movement.
A massive fire broke out due to a collision caused by fog.
This incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday (December 16) in Baldev police station area of Mathura district. According to news agency PTI, at least seven buses and three small vehicles collided around 4:30 am amid dense fog on the Agra-Noida stretch of the expressway, resulting in a major fire.

Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said, “Vehicles collided due to low visibility on Yamuna Expressway from Agra to Noida. Some vehicles also caught fire. All the injured have been sent to the hospital.”
Visuals from the scene showed charred remains of buses, with cranes deployed to clear debris from the road.
Death toll rises to 13, dozens injured
According to police officials quoted by PTI, 13 people died while 35 others were injured in the fire. Baldev police station in-charge Ranjana Sachan said, “All 13 people died due to burning.”

Many of the injured were admitted to the district hospital, community health centre, private hospitals in Baldev and SN Medical College, Agra. “The condition of none of the injured is serious,” Mathura Police said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
CM announces ex-gratia amount, diversion continues
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences and announced financial assistance 2 lakh more to the families of the deceased Rs 50,000 to the injured.
The diversions remained in place as authorities continued evacuation operations and traffic management.
