comedian robin ince Has stepped down as presenter of BBC Radio 4’s acclaimed science show, Infinite monkey cage.

The 56-year-old, who co-hosted the Professor Brian Coxdescribed his departure as “the saddest day of my professional life”.

“Today is not only the final recording of the latest series,” he said in a post on Instagram infinite monkey cageThis is my last one ever Monkey cage.

“I never imagined I would have to leave the show. I had always imagined doing so until I died under the studio lights due to a brain aneurysm caused by my last attempt to understand the concepts of quantum gravity or the shock of being told about the infestation of fly maggots in the sacks of macaque monkeys.

“I resigned in September after 16 years of dedication to the show, a show I named and helped develop for all those years.

“Unfortunately, my opinions have been considered problematic for some time outside the BBC, whether expressing support for trans communitycriticism of donald trumpMany other bizarre opinions, including once gently criticizing stephen fry,

“These things were considered to be in conflict with being an independent BBC science presenter.”

He further said that BBC studio executives “expressed problems with me”, and said that he was left with a choice between not expressing his opinion or resigning, and said that he “chose the latter” and that it “broke my heart”.

Ince continued, “I love this show and I love the audience, and it’s especially because of the audience that this decision was so difficult to make.

“I kept thinking about all the extremist voices promoting hatred and division.

“They are being given so many platforms, while voices representing kindness, open-mindedness, empathy seem to be rarer and rarer.

The comedian said that he “has always worked far above my contracted hours to make sure the show is the best it can be”.

It is understood that the BBC disputes Ince’s version of events.
