“On his farm, on his property he had this amazing stone hut, which I think was originally a slaughterhouse,” to close Said. “But it was built into a really cozy cottage. And that was my first memory, of that little cottage.”
Close remembered that the stone cottage had ivy wrapped around the front and was surrounded by a white picket fence “in the middle of a meadow and a forest.”
“So when I was building this house I decided, because I live my life out the back, that at the back of the house I would build a cottage, a stone cottage,” Close said. “Because the happiest and most inspiring years of my life were there. I’ve decided I’m going to end my days in that hut.”

After Louis-Dreyfus called the death plans “extraordinary”, Close confirmed that she is in the middle of renovations, with the stone portion of the house already completed.
“I think this week they’re starting the porch,” she explained. “There’s a little verandah that leads onto a terrace between the cottage and the big house. The thought of it makes me very happy.”

Close then told Louis-Dreyfus that even though she is 78, it is not the age she feels.
She said, “I probably feel in my late twenties. Maybe early thirties.” “When I think about how old I really am, it surprises me. So I don’t think about it too much. Because I don’t think I fit into what people expect of you when you’re 78.”
