rainfall up to 100 mm It is set to hit parts of northern England, Scotland and Wales on Saturday and Sunday, as the Met Office issued a series of Weather warning for rain.

The yellow weather warning for rain will be in place from 3pm Saturday to 6pm Sunday. The warning extends from North Yorkshire to Lancashire and Northumberland.

Another yellow warning has also been issued for south-west Scotland, where up to 80mm of rain is expected on higher ground and strong winds at times. This warning will remain in effect from Saturday afternoon to 6 pm on Sunday.

Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Wales, with up to 100mm possible in some higher places. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning covering Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Powys from midnight Saturday to midnight Sunday.

Rebekah Hicks, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: ,Although there is still some uncertainty about the specific timing of heavy rain, the combination of prolonged rain and already saturated ground means that further disruption to travel and local flooding is likely.

“We expect more volatile conditions to persist into next week and we are monitoring developments closely.”

Heavy rain can cause flooding on roads and disruption in travel. Forecasters warned it could disrupt power supplies and flood homes and businesses.

People in yellow rainfall warning areas are advised to consider preparing a flood kit, which should include insurance and other important documents, a flashlight and spare batteries, a first aid kit and prescription medications.

The kit should also include warm and waterproof clothing, blankets, and food and water, along with supplies to care for family members or pets.

It comes after the Met Office issued a “danger to life” warning for parts of Wales and south-west England Storm Bram caused devastation in Britain With heavy rain and strong winds.

UK weather forecast

Today:

Mostly dry with a strong or sunny start. Clouds are increasing during the day and rain is falling over Northern Ireland, central and western parts of Scotland. Later there was light drizzle in Wales and western England. A mild, albeit windy day.

tonight:

The initial phase will be clear in North East. It will be cloudy with scattered rain at some places. Heavy rain in the west, moving east overnight. The weather will be clear with fog and frost later in the northwest. The winds are slowing down.

Friday:

The rain will gradually clear from the west across England and Wales, although the south-east will remain wet. Otherwise mostly sunny, with isolated heavy showers in the northwest. Feeling refreshed.

Saturday to Monday:

After a cold start on Saturday, increasingly wet and windy weather will move across the west. After that again rain and strong winds. Probably most humid in the west.
