Stacey — who describes herself as a “low-toxic nutritionist and food ingredient creator” on Instagram — gave birth to her son Axel using the freebirth method, meaning she delivered without the presence of any medical professionals like a doctor or midwife.

Emily Lall, known online as The Authentic Birthkeeper, was present at the birth. The court heard that when police returned to the home the next day, they found Lall had cleaned out the property, but refused to give a statement. He has since been banned from providing care by the Victorian Healthcare Complaints Commissioner, who is now investigating him.

According to ABC, Stassi gave birth to her son at 3 a.m. on September 29 — who is healthy.

The court heard that Stacey initially refused an ambulance but soon began struggling to breathe. An ambulance was eventually called at 4:13 a.m., Alliard said, and she arrived at the hospital at 5:07 a.m. “after some difficulty getting Stacey out of the house.”

Upon reaching there, the hospital reportedly exhausted the supply of his blood group as they were trying to save him. Alliard described the ordeal as “an extremely complex and distressing experience for everyone who cared for her.”

The 30-year-old suffered multiple cardiac arrests in hospital and later died.

The coroner, Therese McCarthy, is considering whether there will be an official court hearing into Stacey’s death. The matter will be further examined in court in March.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the unexpected passing of my beautiful wife, soulmate and best friend, Stacey Warnke (Hatfield),” the lengthy Instagram caption began.

“Stace passed away on September 29, 2025 after successfully giving birth to our first son, Axel, at home,” they wrote. “Unfortunately, shortly afterward, an unexpected and extremely rare complication occurred, and he died after being transferred to the hospital. The hospital staff were wonderful and did their best to help, but ultimately despite their best efforts nothing could be done.”

Describing his wife as “the reason I get up in the morning”, he added: “As her husband, I couldn’t have asked for a better partner,” he added. “She was the most beautiful, loving, caring, hard-working, disciplined, intelligent and trustworthy person I have ever known.”
