health conscious consumer There will be a new one in America soon Option For a classic treatment, like Mondelez is preparing to launch a sugar-free version of its popular Oreo cookiesFrom January, Oreo Zero Sugar and Oreo Double Stuf Zero Sugar will be a permanent addition to the company’s product range across the country,
This is the first time that Mondelez has introduced sugar-free Oreos to the US market, although these varieties are already available in Europe and China. The move comes as the confectionery giant responds to consumers’ growing desire for “mindful indulgence”, aiming to fill a notable gap in the market for sugar-free sandwich cookies.
The trend toward healthier snacking is gaining momentum across the industry. Earlier this year, market research firm Circana reported that a majority of Americans are actively looking for snacks that they consider “good for them.” Similarly, Conagra Brands, known for products like popcorn and Slim Jim, noted in a recent report that younger demographics, particularly Millennials and Generation Z, are increasingly preferring portion-controlled and wellness-focused snack options.

Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, which was introduced in 2017, saw sales rise 9% last year, while sales of original Coke grew only 2%. Mondelez also faces competition from Hershey’s, which sells zero sugar versions of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and other candies, and Wortman’s, a sugar-free wafer cookie brand.
Mondelez said it spent four years developing Unsweetened Oreos to ensure the cookies still tasted like the original cookies. To sweeten, Oreos contain maltitol, a type of sugar alcohol also found in some fruits and vegetables; polydextrose, a soluble fiber; Sucralose, a sweetener derived from sugar; and acesulfame potassium, a synthetic sweetener.
It’s difficult to compare nutrition data on Zero Sugar and regular Oreos because the serving sizes differ.
One serving of Oreo Zero Sugar Cookies, defined as 22.6 grams, contains 90 calories, 4.5 grams of fat, and 16 grams of carbohydrates. One serving of regular Oreos, defined as three cookies or 34 grams, contains 160 calories, 7 grams of fat and 25 grams of carbohydrates.
The biggest difference: One serving of regular Oreos has 13 grams of added sugars, or 26% of the recommended daily amount. There is none in Zero Sugar Oreos.
