Shipping containers filled with bananas and other fruits have washed up on a UK beach after falling off a cargo ship.
Sixteen containers from the Baltic clipper fell overboard near the Nab Tower lighthouse near Bembridge. Isle of WightAround 6pm on Saturday (December 6), the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) said.
Some containers were washed away in Selsey, West Sussex.
No crew members onboard were injured.
P&O Cruises The 5,200-passenger Iona had to delay its departure from Southampton on Saturday until the next day after the incident.
HM Coastguard is working with the relevant authorities. The public has been advised to avoid the area and to report any items found in the containers to HM Coastguard’s Wreck Receiver.
