A six-episode, behind-the-scenes Disney+ documentary about Taylor Swift’s Erasure Tour and Rian Johnson’s third “Knives Out” film, “Wake Up Dead Man” is some of the newest television, movies, music and games headed to a device near you.
Among the streaming offerings worth your time this week, as chosen by The Associated Press’ entertainment journalists: Chip and Joanna Gaines have taken on a major renovation of a tiny house in the mountains of Colorado, video gamers can skateboard through hell in Sam Eng’s Skate Story and Rob Reiner has got the band back together for “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.”
New films will stream from December 8-14
– Rian Johnson’s third “Knives Out” film, “Wake Up Dead Man,” arrives on Netflix on Dec. 12. Religion is at the center of this installment, which features Daniel Craig’s dapper detective Benoit Blanc trying to solve the “closed room” murder of Josh Brolin’s Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, a charismatic and terrifying church leader with a legion of followers. The large cast includes Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jeremy Renner and Kerry Washington. However, some people were less happy with the outing. In his review for the Associated Press, mark kennedy It was called, “A disappointing and ugly journey that may test fans’ faith in the filmmaker.”
, brad pitt The Formula One movie “F1,” streaming Friday, Dec. 12 on Apple TV, stars a rookie driver in search of glory on the racetrack. Filmmaker Joseph Kosinski wanted to make it as exciting and authentic as possible: in several scenes, it’s actually Pitt and Damson Idris driving those cars at 180 mph. Film writer Jake Coyle wrote in his review that, “This is a great machine of a movie that, in its most interesting racing sequences, approaches a kind of high-speed grandeur.”
—Rob Reiner gets the band back together for “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” which begins streaming on HBO Max on Friday, December 12. However, was it a mistake to re-watch the great 1984 mockumentary? Mark Kennedy wrote in his review that, “Despite some fine star-studded cameos – Paul McCartney’s film is easily the best – ‘Spinal Tap II’ leans too unnecessarily into old favorites and is suffocated by the constantly looming presence of death, a disappointing improv-based comedy that is forced and the laughs barely register. This is a movie for hardcore tappers only.”

– It’s Taylor Swift’s world and we’re just living in it. Prepare yourself for two new projects at Disney+. It is a six-episode behind-the-scenes documentary about their historic “Eras Tour”, titled “Taylor Swift ‘The Eras Tour’ The End of an Era” – The first two episodes will premiere on Friday. And this is not to be confused with the second episode, titled “Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ The End of an Era’, which is now a concert film with the inclusion of “The Tortured Poets Department” section. The 2024 album was included in their three and a half hour performance following its release. It was filmed in Vancouver. (This is separate from the 2023 “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” film, which was compiled from several Swift shows at SoFi Stadium in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood and preceded “The Tortured Poets Department”.) Swifties, wake up!
– It’s been a big year for collaborative rap records (looking at you, Clipse) and it continues in the 11th hour of 2025 with “Light-Years,” a new release from rapper Nas and record producer DJ Premier. They’re great for a reason.
-Grammy-award-winning producer, DJ and electronic musician Fred Again will release the next edition of his USB series, the 16-track “USB002” on Friday. Expect the Unexpected: The first song released from the collection is “You’re a Star”, featuring Australian punk-pop band Amyl and the Sniffers. The club looks a little different this time.

-Chip and Joanna Gaines have long said they would not do any fixer uppers outside Central Texas. So far. This couple has done a major job of renovating a small 1960s house in the mountains of Colorado. “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House” will premiere Tuesday on Magnolia Network and HGTV and stream on HBO Max and Discovery+ the same day.
– Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, returns to TV Wednesday with Season 2 of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” The series, starring Walker Scobell, is based on “The Sea of Monsters”, the second novel in the book series by Rick Riordan. The two-hour season premiere will stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
-He helped launch “American Idol” and created “America’s Got Talent” and the group One Direction. Now, the cameras are following Simon Cowell as he looks to form a new boy band in “Simon Cowell: The Next Act.” The documentary coming out Wednesday is about both their search and Cowell himself. He prides himself on finding the “it” factor. “When you’re putting a band together, it’s like mining diamonds,” he said in the trailer. “If it went wrong, it would be ‘Simon Cowell has lost it.'”
-Diane Kruger plays a mother named Jess who takes her son to the hospital with a head injury in a new drama called “Little Disasters” for Paramount+. The doctor, who is also a friend, becomes suspicious of Jess’s description of what happened and calls the authorities. It is based on a novel of the same name. All six-episodes will conclude on Thursday.

New video games to be played from December 8-14
– I’ve been skateboarding all over the world in various video games, but one place remains untouched from my deck: Hell. Solo designer Sam Eng aims to correct that omission with Skate Story. You are a skateboarder made of glass in an underworld full of monsters who can only be defeated by showing off your disgusting moves. The only way to escape is to swallow the moon. If you like classics like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, but you want them to be more confusing, this ride might be for you. Launching Monday on PlayStation 5, Switch 2 or PC.
