More than 260,000 boxes of shredded cheese sold in 31 states have been recalled and Puerto Rico According to the US Food and Drug Administration, due to the possibility of metal fragment contamination.
The FDA said various shredded cheeses made by Great Lakes Cheese Co. have been recalled. Cheese products are sold under private store-brand labels at many retailers, including Target, wal-mart And Aldi.
The recall involves various cheeses such as mozzarella, Italian Style, Pizza Style, Mozzarella and Provolone and Mozzarella and Parmesan.
According to the FDA’s website, the recall has a Category II classification because the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health outcomes or where the likelihood of serious adverse health outcomes is low”.
The FDA says that eating metal pieces can cause injuries such as damage to teeth, sores in the mouth or throat, or lacerations or holes in the intestine.
