Many visitors expressed concern about the malfunctioning rides on social media and shared videos showing attractions stopping in the middle of operations. The park, which had about 2,000 visitors on opening day, immediately drew criticism online, with some users alleging safety lapses and accusing the company of conducting a “trial run” with the public.

In a statement to Moneycontrol, Wonderla attributed the disruptions on December 2 to “regional power fluctuations”, which caused “a brief interruption to some rides while the system switched to backup power”.
Managing director and executive chairman Arun Chittilapilli also addressed the complaints in a video released on his social media channels. He said passenger numbers were “tremendous” on launch day, but some journeys were halted due to frequent power outages due to changing weather conditions.
“Our team worked quickly to get the ride back on track, but there were delays. We apologize,” he said. He said that affected tourists can contact for assistance. He insisted that the rides are safe and that “some of the videos are being blown out of proportion,” noting that Wonderla has operated for 25 years and welcomes 48 million visitors to its parks.
The company reiterated that momentary interruptions during power stabilization were part of standard safety protocols and operations returned to normal thereafter. It further clarified that “misinformation” was being circulated online and that park operations remained under control throughout the day. As a precautionary measure, the Chennai park is currently running entirely on its in-house power system to ensure uninterrupted functioning.
The Chennai property is Wonderla’s fourth amusement park and was built at an investment of ₹600 crore.
Wonderla is also eyeing expansion in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.
