A new zealand A man allegedly swallowed a luxury Faberge egg pendant worth more than $33,000 during an attempted theft, auckland Police said.
Officers were called to Partridge Jewelers in the city center at about 3.30pm on Friday after staff raised the alarm, claiming a customer had lifted a high-end. James Bond Octopussy pendant from the display and swallowed it.
Central Area Commander Gray Anderson said: “The auckland The city beat team responded a few minutes later and arrested the man inside the store.
“A man inside the store allegedly picked up a pendant and swallowed it,” he said.
Court documents reportedly indicate that the 32-year-old accused was formally charged Theft on November 29 regarding the Faberge x 007 Special Edition Octopussy Egg Surprise Locket, valued at $33,585.
The renowned luxury house behind the design, Faberge, is internationally recognized for its ornate royal eggs.
Information on the brand’s official website describes the piece as being crafted from 18 karat yellow gold with green Giloy enamel. It has 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires.
The interior of the locket “offers a surprise” – a small 18-karat gold octopus framed with two black diamond eyes. The locket is an allusion to the 1983 fictional Secret Service spy film.
Police are unable to release a photo of the item because it “has not yet been recovered,” Mr Anderson said.
Theft The pendant charge is not the only charge the man faced. He is also accused of stealing an iPad from Partridge Jewelers on Nov. 12 and taking $100 worth of cat litter and flea treatments from a private residence a day later.
The suspect is currently in custody and will appear again in the District Court on December 8.
