Car-sharing firm Zipcar has proposed to close its UK operations by the end of the year.
The US-based company told customers in an email on Monday that it plans to temporarily suspend new bookings after December 31.
It also said it had launched formal consultations with staff.
The UK operation had 71 employees at the end of last year, according to recently filed accounts.
Zipcar said its customers will still be able to use Zipcar through Christmas and Dec. 31.
james taylorZipcar UK’s general manager told customers: “I am writing to let you know that we are proposing to close Zipcar’s UK operations and today we have launched a formal consultation with our UK employees.
“We will temporarily suspend bookings pending the outcome of this consultation.
“This means that it will not be possible to make any new bookings after 31 December 2025 pending the outcome of the consultation.”
He said customer accounts would remain in place until the company confirms its decision at the end of the consultation process.
