It’s the first day of the Coral Gold Cup meeting at Newbury and we’ve got five selections from different teams betting sites To follow on Friday afternoon.
Coral Racing Club Novices Limited Handicap Chase (12.45, Newbury)
Despite the relatively small field, it looks competitive, as all but one of the seven runners may have some sort of case. I like the look of it palacioScored a winning effort at Chepstow (2m, good) on his Chase debut earlier this month.
He jumped well in the main, which is important here and dealt with his one mistake well, winning by more than eight lengths.
He works with ground cuts, so these slower conditions won’t be a problem. After that success he is behaving quite well and is capable of doing better.
Newbury Tip 1: Palacio (Newbury, 12.45) – Win 1 point @ 11/2 (Ladbrokes,
Coral John Francome Novices’ Chase (13.50, Newbury)
Another interesting small field competition is this Grade 2 race over 2m4f. It’s not easy to confidently dismiss any sextet, but at prices horse racing betting sites, no questions asked Looks like the best value option.
Ben Pauling has beaten two of the ten previous winners of this race, including The Jukebox Man 12 months ago. He did not have the class of some of his opponents in hurdling, but last season he won three of them, including challenging on penalties.
However, he made an immediate impact over fences (2m3f, good), scoring a decisive win at Ascot at the start of the month. It’s not a handicap, so the fact he only went up 5 pounds for it means nothing, except that I think he’s better than his official rating of 141.
He has only £2 to find and some of the market’s leading heroes at 6/1 betting apps It feels too good to ignore while writing.
Newbury Tip 2: No Questions Asked (Newbury, 13.50) – First Win @ 6/1 (bet365,
“Join Coral Bet £10, Get £50” Handicap Chase (14.25, Newbury)
An open competition on paper and I want to stick to the tried and tested (and yes, of course, exposed) heltonham For this. Already a C&D winner, Dan Skelton’s charge has been in the hands of the handicapper so far this season.
However, his best effort to date came when our selection Issam beat him at Wetherby (2m3½f, soft) last time out. The evaluator has dropped another 2 pounds for this and he is now back to his last winning mark.
He has also had wind surgery since that race. Obviously, this isn’t guaranteed to yield any profits, but even an effort similar to that latest run would put him very firmly in the picture here. I think he performs best on these galloping tracks and he sees value in the field.
Newbury Tip 3: Heltenham (Newbury 14.25) – first win at 5/1 (betfred,
Coral Long Distance Hurdle (15.00 Newbury)
There is potential for another great Grade 2 race here. Impose Toi won easily at Aintree on his reappearance against a field of handicappers. His trainer, Nicky Henderson, said after that race that he would be surprised if the JP McManus-owned gelding was a graded horse, yet he was the hot favorite for it.
He failed to clear the last two hurdles at Aintree, meaning there is a natural question on Impose Toi’s form despite looking impressive. You also wonder if he is one of those best in his reappearance, although he has had some good races with losses in subsequent starts.
Either way, I prefer to favor the proven, last year’s winner at this level strong leaderOllie Murphy’s charge also did not manage to win again last season after being successful in this race, but he finished with a very creditable second place in the Aintree Grade 1,
He worked a bit hard on his recent reappearance at Wetherby when he stayed on strongly to win a tight three-way finish for the Bet365 Hurdle (3m, good).
He is better than that performance and, with the cheekpiece on for only the second time in his career, he looks capable of building on that and regaining the level needed to win it again.
Newbury Tip 4: Strong Leader (Newbury, 15.00) – Wins by 1 point at 5/2 (William Hill,
Coral “Pipped-at-the-Post” Payouts Handicap Handicap (15.35, Newbury)
For my final Friday pick, I’d take a chance on the Nicky Henderson-trained punctuation markMost eight-year-olds are worth double digits horse racing betting apps And it can be supported in every way. His best form will give him contention here and, while he was well beaten when we last saw him in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival last March, his other two starts last year were competitive.
He does well over two miles on the flat and this travel is no problem for him, while the same applies on slow ground. His trainer is brilliant at preparing his charges to hit the ground running and, while there is a risk in lining him up against some less risky runners, at the prices I think he is worth taking, he is capable of finishing in the frame.
Newbury Tip 5: Punctuation (Newbury, 15.35) – 0.5 points each way @ 14/1 (bet365,
