An Ahmedabad-bound Air India flight returned to Delhi airport on Thursday (November 27) evening due to suspicious smoke in the cargo hold, sources told PTI.
Sources said that after investigation the smoke signal was found to be false.
He said that about 170 people were on board Delhi-Ahmedabad flight AI2939, operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.
An airline official said the plane returned to Delhi soon after takeoff due to a smoke signal, which was later found to be false after a thorough precautionary check of the plane.
Following standard operating procedures, the plane landed in Delhi and the passengers and crew were deboarded safely, the official said.
Later the passengers were sent to Ahmedabad by another plane.
