Tesla India chief Sharad Agarwal said the Gurugram facility is the company’s first “experience center” in the country, combining sales, service and logistics under one roof.
The opening also signals Tesla’s move toward a more structured retail network as it expands into India, its 50th global market. The Gurugram center will support counselling, booking and test drives, and will be inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on November 27.
Aggarwal said Tesla is using a direct-to-consumer sales model to quickly meet customer needs in India. He said the company has delivered more than 8 million cars globally, helping avoid 32 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Tesla has 7,500+ Supercharging stations and 75,000+ Superchargers worldwide, capable of adding up to 275 km of range in 15 minutes.
In India, new Superchargers are planned at One Horizon in Gurugram, followed by South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The already commissioned chargers are located at BKC Mumbai, Worldmark 3 Delhi and the new Tesla Center Gurugram.
Aggarwal also said that many Tesla components are used in the company’s Optimus robot.
Tesla formally started sales in India this year with two imported Model Y variants, priced at ₹59.89 lakh and ₹67.89 lakh, shipped from the Shanghai plant and subject to 70% import duty.
Aggarwal said the Model Y rear-wheel-drive variant offers long-term ownership savings through software updates, higher resale value and bundled assistance.
According to FADA vehicle data, Tesla sold 104 units in September and October, with the Model Y being the most sought-after in the luxury EV segment.
The company enters a market currently dominated by Mercedes-Benz and BMW, which sold 460-480 luxury EVs in October, competing with models such as the BMW iX1, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Volvo EC40, Kia EV6 and BYD Celion 7.
The launch in India comes at a time when Tesla is facing soft momentum globally. It sold 497,100 units in the September quarter, up 7% year-on-year, while China sales fell to 26,006 units in October, the lowest in three years, amid rising competition.
