President Draupadi Murmu and Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks on the 17th anniversary of one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in India’s history.

On November 26, 2008, 10 heavily armed terrorists carried out coordinated shootings and bombings across the city, targeting the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident, CST Railway Station, Nariman House and other public places. More than 166 people, including security personnel and foreign nationals, were killed and more than 300 injured in the three-day siege.

In an ex post, the President paid tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the people of our country. “The nation remembers with gratitude his supreme sacrifice.” “Let us reaffirm our commitment to fight terrorism in all its forms. Let us move forward on the path of progress with a resolve to build a stronger and more prosperous India,” he said.

On the anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack, I pay my humble tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the people of our country. The nation remembers with gratitude his supreme sacrifice. Let us reiterate our commitment to completely combat terrorism…

Exactly 17 years ago, several officers, including ATS chief Hemant Karkare and Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, gave up their lives trying to save civilians from horrific attacks. The response included Mumbai Police, MARCOS and the National Security Guard. They fought the attackers room by room, rescuing civilians trapped inside the besieged buildings.

Amit Shah also remembered the brave security personnel who protected our people and paid tribute to all those who lost their lives on November 26, 2008. It was on this day in 2008 that terrorists carried out a “cowardly attack on Mumbai”, committing a horrific and inhuman act, he said.

On this day in 2008, terrorists carried out a dastardly attack on Mumbai and committed a gruesome and inhuman act. I salute the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives bravely facing the Mumbai terror attacks and pay tribute to all those who lost their lives in this dastardly attack.

Terrorism…

— Amit Shah (@AmitShah) 26 November 2025

“I pay tribute to the brave soldiers who bravely faced the Mumbai terror attacks and laid down their lives and to all those who lost their lives in this cowardly attack,” he wrote in Hindi.

He said, “Terrorism is not a curse for any one country alone, it is a serious curse for the entire human race.”

Assuring India’s efforts against terrorism, he said the government’s zero tolerance policy against terrorism is clear and has wide international support.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his respects to all those killed in the attack and said, “We salute the extraordinary courage of our police and security forces who faced terror with unwavering resolve. Their sacrifice strengthens India’s fight against terrorism in all its forms.”

Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also joined in paying tribute. He wrote on X, “My humble tribute to the brave soldiers and innocent civilians martyred in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.”

The 26/11 attacks reshaped India’s security architecture, leading to major reforms in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination and coastal surveillance. The incident also intensified global scrutiny of cross-border terrorism and reinforced calls for deeper international cooperation to prevent such attacks. Seventeen years later, this attack is a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and collective action against terrorist threats.
