New Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday joined DDA officials in the successful trial of the city’s first hot air balloon ride at Bansera on the banks of Yamuna. An officer gave this information.
This initiative by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) promises to give a new dimension to Delhi’s skyline and strengthen the city’s eco-tourism and adventure sports offerings, the official said in a statement.
Conceptualized and implemented under the direct supervision of the LG, who has been consistently guiding DDA to create new recreational spaces for the public and comprehensive rejuvenation of the Yamuna floodplains, the project underlines DDA’s commitment to enhancing sustainable tourism and enriching public recreational experiences, the statement said.
The DDA will launch hot air balloon rides at four locations: Bansera, Asita, Yamuna Sports Complex and Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex, it said.
“After the successful trial at Bansera, public operations are expected to begin soon. Once launched, these rides will provide residents and visitors a unique aerial view of Delhi’s landscape, riverfront and cityscape, significantly enhancing the tourism potential of the city,” the official statement said.
Limited flights will be allowed for four hours every day. However, DDA may increase it as per requirement, the statement said.
It said the peak season of ballooning in North India from November to February offers ideal weather conditions, and public rides are scheduled to start soon.
The statement said the DDA has worked extensively on the rejuvenation of Yamuna and several projects are being developed along its banks, including Asita, which was once encroached land and has now been transformed into a green, beautiful landscape.
Additionally, it has developed Bansera Bamboo Park in Sarai Kale Khan, which was once a C&D waste dumping site. It said it has now been transformed into a bamboo-themed park with over 30,000 bamboos, three water bodies and a musical fountain.
The Yamuna Sports Complex, located in Surajmal Vihar, is the largest sports complex developed by the DDA, and the Commonwealth Games Sports Complex was developed for the Commonwealth Games, which were held in the national capital in the year 2010, the statement said, highlighting it as a premier venue for hot air balloon rides.
