Jammu, Nov 23 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha on Sunday chaired a high-level security meeting to review winter preparedness, law and order situation and the overall scenario after the Delhi terror blast.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dullu, senior officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, various security forces and intelligence agencies attended the meeting.
Official sources said the LG reviewed the situation, winter preparations and counter-terrorism operations along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) after the busting of a white-collar terror module linked to some doctors from Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh.
Police, intelligence and security forces briefed the meeting on the overall security situation in the Union Territory.
During the meeting, DGP Nalin Prabhat gave detailed information based on a series of ground level review meetings conducted by him recently at the district level.
In the meeting, the DGP gave information about counter-terrorism operations, strengthening of intelligence and community policing initiatives.
LG took these assessments and recommendations into account to further strengthen its security strategy for the coming months.
The Lieutenant Governor took a detailed review of the situation after the terror blast near the Red Fort on November 10, in which 15 people were killed and 10 others were injured after a terror conspirator, Dr Umar Nabi, detonated an explosive-laden car.
Dr Umar Nabi had escaped arrest after his two terrorist associates, Dr Adil Rather of Qazigund area of Kulgam district and Dr Muzammil Ganai of Pulwama district, were arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police while busting a white-collar terror module in Faridabad area.
Following the blast, security has been tightened across Jammu and Kashmir and patrolling has been increased at important locations.
Security personnel have been deployed at strategic locations on highways, including the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Pulwama and Qazigund, to monitor vehicular movement and maintain public order.
Police have also intensified inspection of shops and establishments dealing with chemicals, fertilizers, explosives, hardware and automobile workshops in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ten people, including UP’s Dr Adil Rather, Dr Muzammil Ganai, Dr Shaheen Shahid and his brother, Molvi Irfan, Amir Ali, Jasir Bilal, Dr Omar Farooq and his wife Shahzada Akhtar and electrician Tufail Ahmed, have been arrested so far in the Delhi terror blast case.
The NIA has said that all of them played a key role in the terror attack, with Amir Rashid Ali arrested after investigation revealed that the car used in the blast was registered in his name, while Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish had provided technical support to the suicide bomber.
The Union Home Ministry had handed over the investigation of the case to the NIA.
The NIA is working on the case in close coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police and police forces of other states.
