Police officers roughed it New Jersey neighborhood After reports that a loose Horse Was roaming in the area.
HorseMonroe Township police said, dubbed Seabiscuit by police, was “prowling” the Hunter Woods neighborhood in Gloucester County on Friday looking for hay bales.
Police found the horse around 7.50 a.m., but the creature “quickly ran away” when encountered.
A “brief foot chase” ensued, but officers were unsuccessful in restraining the horse.
The footage captured an officer running down the sidewalk after Seabiscuit, who then galloped across the street, passing a parked car and a school bus.
After some extra horsepower from other officers, the animal was safely secured and “returned without incident,” police said.
It is not immediately clear where the horse came from. Police also clarified that Seabiscuit was not the horse’s real name: “We changed the name of the horse to protect its identity.”
The original Seabiscuit was a champion thoroughbred racehorse from the 1930s to 1940s. The nationally beloved horse was voted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1958.
“These types of calls are not completely unusual for us and we do our best to protect all of our animal friends who are part of this community,” he said.
Social media users were creating a ruckus in the comment section.
“Mounted Patrol Units coming soon to a ‘neighborhood’ near you,” one Facebook user quipped.
“Hey, guys, loitering around is prohibited!” Another wrote.
“We’re going to have to file an Open Public Records Act request to get the full bodycam video of this incident…” joked another.
