New Delhi, November 22 (IANS) Congress on Saturday appointed senior party leader Vinay Kumar as the new president of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) in place of Pratibha Singh. The appointment, announced through an official communication from the All India Congress Committee (AICC), comes into effect with immediate effect.
AICC General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal issued a statement in this regard.
The statement mentioned that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Vinay Kumar as “President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect”.
The party also acknowledged the work of the outgoing State Congress Committee chief.
“The party appreciates the contribution of outgoing PCC President Smt. Pratibha Singh,” the statement said.
However, the one-page press note issued from the AICC headquarters in New Delhi did not explain the reason for the leadership change or outline any further organizational restructuring for the state unit.
Vinay Kumar, a prominent organizational face in Himachal Pradesh, has played various roles within the state unit and the assembly. His appointment comes at a time when the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu in Himachal Pradesh is dealing with both administrative and organizational challenges.
Pratibha Singh, who has now been replaced, is a senior party leader and MP. She has previously served several terms as HPCC President and has been a key figure in organizational decisions of the state unit.
The change in leadership comes ahead of important political cycles in the state, including the party restructuring exercise being undertaken by the Congress at the national level.
AICC communications till Saturday did not indicate any other changes or appointments regarding the Himachal Pradesh unit.
This is another example of Congress continuing its state-level organizational update, a process the party has been doing in several states since the beginning of the year.
