Agartala, Nov 22 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said “unity in diversity” is one of the defining characteristics of India, and stressed the need to maintain harmony among all communities.
The Chief Minister said that despite diversity, there is a strong bond of unity among the states of the North-Eastern region. “Unity among different states of the country is maintained through exchange of culture and tradition,” Saha said while inaugurating the newly constructed pucca temple house of Puthiba deity Bari at Abhaynagar, a temple of the Manipuri community on the outskirts of Agartala.
The state government has spent Rs 74 lakh on the construction of a permanent building of this old temple.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the culture and traditions of Manipuris are very ancient and are an integral part of the history of the country. Saha, who holds the information and cultural department, said, “The history of the culture and traditions of Manipuris in the state dates back to the royal era. The state government is committed to the preservation and development of the culture and traditions of every community, including castes and tribes. For this purpose, the state government is working by adopting various schemes.”
He said that the dance, drama and handloom art of Manipuris are also famous in the country and abroad.
He said, “It is a matter of pride for the country. The state government is working to improve the socio-economic standards of the Manipuris living in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to give priority to the idea of unity in diversity. The state government is also working for the development of every ethnic group in the state, including castes and tribes, following the vision of the Prime Minister.”
Present on the occasion were Rajya Sabha member from Manipur Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, former Manipur minister and current MLA Suchindra Meitei, Puthiba Welfare and Cultural Society Secretary Deepak Kumar Sinha, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumdar, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, eminent social activist Papiya Dutta and Puthiba Welfare and Cultural Society advisor Niranjan Dutta, among others.
