New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday announced that the government has declared November 25 as a public holiday to commemorate the sacred occasion of the 350th martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. An officer gave this information.
“May Guru Sahib’s timeless message of courage, compassion and freedom of belief guide and inspire us in our collective journey ahead,” he said in a message on Twitter on the eve of the start of the three-day ‘Gurmat Samagam’ near the Red Fort.
CM Gupta is personally monitoring the three-day ‘Gurmat Samagam’ starting from Sunday to commemorate the 350th Martyrdom Day.
The Chief Minister recently conducted an on-site inspection and directed all departments to complete their works within stipulated timelines and with the highest standards of quality.
During the inspection, Chief Minister Gupta reviewed major arrangements related to security, crowd management, traffic regulation, cleanliness, lighting, availability of drinking water and emergency services.
He directed the officials to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the devotees and visitors during the event and stressed the need for smooth coordination among all the departments.
Delhi ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Kapil Mishra and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion, the statement said.
The Chief Minister said that the 350th martyrdom birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur is being celebrated with deep reverence, devotion and enthusiasm throughout the country.
In Delhi too, a grand three-day commemoration has been planned at the Red Fort on November 23, 24 and 25.
He said that this historical monument bears witness to the supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur and invited people from Delhi and across the country to participate in the event.
Sharing details of the programme, the Chief Minister said that many important activities will take place in the three-day programme.
CM Gupta said, “These will include a grand museum displaying important historical accounts and evidence related to the life and martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur. A special light-and-sound show will be presented on the ramparts of the Red Fort and seven accompaniment groups will perform satsang and kirtan.”
Inviting the people of Delhi to join this historic occasion, the Chief Minister said that such an event is seen only once in many centuries, and he urged everyone to come together to pay homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur and seek his blessings.
