The 34-year-old reality TV star shared a video from her hospital bed on Wednesday (November 19) revealing that she had a laparoscopy. During this procedure a small telescope (laparoscope) is inserted into the abdomen. It may be possible for doctors to remove any areas of endometriosis during laparoscopy.
Sharing a video from the hospital, Mecklenburg explained that she wanted to talk about her experiences to help inform those who are considering the procedure, because she was worried at first about what it would involve.
Endometriosis is a condition where cells similar to the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other parts of the body, causing severe menstrual pain, fatigue, and other symptoms. According to the charity Endometriosis UK, the average diagnosis time for endometriosis in the UK is more than 8 years.
